Dos Corrientes NGO Model
Key Components of the Dos Corrientes Model for Poverty Alleviation and Community Transformation
Step 1: Vision, Research, and Business Plan
Success starts with a clear vision. At Dos Corrientes, we first defined our purpose and conducted thorough research to understand community needs. We then created a detailed business plan, including budgeting and securing initial capital, laying the foundation for a sustainable NGO that could make a lasting impact.

Step 2: Creating a Sales Process
At Dos Corrientes, we recognized that to be financially successful, we had to step away from the crowd and create unique partnerships. We treated our NGO like a business, with the "product" being a partnership in alleviating poverty and transforming communities. Prospects were carefully referred to us and approached through a specific process, guiding them step-by-step to form lasting partnerships that drive our mission forward.
Step 3: Building a Strong Network and Partnerships
Success in development work relies on strategic partnerships. We cultivated relationships with universities, businesses, and community leaders who shared our vision. By aligning with key stakeholders, we leveraged expertise, funding, and resources to expand our impact beyond what we could achieve alone. These partnerships have fueled innovative solutions and long-term sustainability.

Step 4: Community-Led Initiatives
At Dos Corrientes, we believed real change happens when communities take ownership. We designed programs that empower local leaders and residents to shape solutions for their own futures. By integrating entrepreneurship, English education, and regenerative agriculture, we provided pathways for long-term self-sufficiency, ensuring that our impact continues to grow beyond our direct involvement.
Step 5: Testing, Measuring Impact, and Adapting
Before implementing any program, we first tested its feasibility to determine its usefulness and potential outcomes. Through pilot initiatives and small-scale trials, we gathered data to assess effectiveness, track progress, and refine strategies based on real-world feedback. This approach allowed us to scale only what worked, ensuring that every initiative delivered meaningful results. Our commitment to continuous assessment has helped us maintain donor trust, attract new partners, and most importantly, create lasting change in the communities we serve.

Step 6: Ensuring Long-Term Sustainability
The true measure of success is not what outsiders can do, but what a community can sustain on its own. At Dos Corrientes, we built every initiative with this in mind, ensuring that our impact would continue long after our direct involvement. That transition is now complete.
From this point forward, Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí (ULEAM) will take the lead in the entrepreneurship and English programs, integrating them into its educational framework to benefit future generations. At the same time, a team of trained Liguiqui residents now teaches regenerative agriculture and water conservation, equipping others with the knowledge and skills to secure a self-sufficient future.
This lasting impact is the ultimate fulfillment of our vision—empowered communities driving their own transformation.
